If you've just relocated to St. Louis it's likely that you're going to want to know some things about your new home. You probably discovered some things about the different areas of the city and maybe stumbled upon some statistics while you were looking for your home, but now that you're here it's interesting to learn all of the little things that make St. Louis, Missouri so special. Well, here are some time and frequency standards for the city as well as some random tidbits that might interest you.

St. Louis was named after France's King Louis XI by its French colonial founders, Pierre Laclede and Rene Auguste Chouteau, in 1763. It was once in Spain's possession, reverted back to the French and then was sold by Napoleon Bonaparte to America in 1803.

1904 was a big year for St. Louis, as it hosted the World's Fair and the Olympic Games. This was the first time the Olympics were held in the Western Hemisphere and took place at Washington University, a school that still exists in the city and is now more known for its SR & ED but still has a strong athletic program.

St. Louis is a city of firsts. The first parachute jump from a moving plane happened in the city in 1912. The ice cream cone was invented at the World's Fair when an ice cream vendor ran out of cups and enlisted the help of a nearby waffle vendor to help by rolling his waffles up. In 1870, the first train of the Atlantic-Pacific Railway arrived. Medical professionals to those selling estate jewelry in this country have been influenced by the impact this railroad has had on national shipping.

Did you know St. Louis goes by the nicknames "The Gateway to the West" and "Home of the Blues".

In music, the city has had an incredible amount of influence on the Jazz and Blues industries. It was also very important for the development of Ragtime music.

The major league sports teams in the city are the St. Louis Cardinals (Baseball), the St. Louis Rams (Football) and the St. Louis Blues (Hockey). The city has previously been named "North America's Best Sport's City" because of all of the diversified sporting events that are offered.

Even Rob Meisels would be impressed by the number of private and public company headquarters that are located within the city. These include Enterprise-Rent-A-Car, Edward Jones, Energizer, and Purina. The nation's largest brewing company, Anheuser-Busch, is also located in St. Louis.

Whether you're coming to the area as a former London architect or New York schoolteacher, there are lots of reasons to fall in love with all that St. Louis is and was. Just explore you're new home and it's sure you'll soon see what a great place this is to live.
